Founding & History
Sehah Youth and Fitness Center is an entity of Sehah Inc., a non profit tax exempt community based organization founded by our late Baba (Father to many) Mwalimu Baba Shango. Sehah is dedicated to strengthening our community through culture, counseling, fitness, health, academics, and martial arts.
Sehah Youth Programs was created in 1991 and incorporated in 1992. In 1994 we purchased an abandon house and transformed it into a very successful base for youth activities. Simultaneously we implemented Martial arts and Rites of Passage programs in local schools and other community centers. Since 1992 hundreds and maybe even a few thousand youth have benefited from our goal of building self esteem among our youth through positive programming and care.
As time passed we moved toward more specialization in health and fitness, particularly because of the overall declining health of our people. In 2004, because of our growing visibility and success we built a new facility to better accommodate the community and integrate adults into our health & fitness programs.
Our approach is holistic. We believe that the mind, body, and spirit are one. We believe that a good workout can be done in all types of environments.
Sehah Youth and Fitness Center recognizes the fact that health is an important issue in our community. We understand that many people are beginning to recognize this also, but for one reason or another they are unable to get started with a new physical life. The main reasons are time, money, and convenience. Sehah seeks to eliminate these reasons by providing convenient times to workout inside of the community, with affordable prices and special emphasis on seniors and at risk youth.
Included in the fitness program is Martial-arts/self-defense , General Exercise/Parkour, Spinning/bike riding, Running and strength training.
